Park in Mulhouse, which today includes a zoo and Botanical garden was founded in 1868 and at first took only four hectares of land. To date, it has greatly expanded its size and today occupies 25 hectares.
The Park was founded at the expense of citizens, it was inhabited by several species of birds and animals including deer and kangaroos. Just two years after opening, the Park had to close, and all its inhabitants to sell such a move was made to make the Franco-Prussian war. After the war the Park was in private ownership and changed owners twice. In 1893 it was bought by the municipality of Mulhouse. After the Second World war the Park was restored fairly quickly – in five years it received its first visitors.
Today at the zoo of Mulhouse is home to about 1200 birds and animals almost two hundred species. There are pin mini-zoo with farm animals you can pet. There are goats, rabbits and donkeys. From wild animals in the zoo, you can see monkeys, wolves, sea lions, penguins, pelicans.
Botanical garden part, initially represented by a small landscaped Park, now has several hundred varieties of irises and hydrangea, there also grow tulips, rhododendrons, lilies, hydrangeas, rare plants from the tropics. Plants are grouped into several thematic gardens, the Botanical garden also has large collections of coniferous trees and shrubs. Its area is decorated with fountains, ponds and rockeries. In the Park you can have a picnic in a specially equipped place, the children's Playground.
In Mulhouse, which is recognized as a city of technical museums, the Park is a man-made area, but no less beautiful, wildlife.
