The Cathedral is the second oldest Orthodox Church in Omsk, preserved in the city since pre-revolutionary times. The temple is situated in the Central part of the city at the intersection of three streets - Tretyakov, Tarski and Rabinowitz. The initiator of the construction of the Cathedral in 1858 became the Governor General of Western Siberia and the Military Acting Ataman of the Siberian Cossack G. H. Gaspard.
The temple was in a poor neighborhood in the North of the city and was built on donations from local residents, mainly G. Andreev and his wife. The Church was built municipal architect E. Ezecom. The main construction work was completed by 1867, On the heads of the Church crosses were set. However, due to the unexpected death of G. Andreeva finishing work was delayed for a further three years.
The solemn ceremony of consecration of a single altar stone of the Church was held in September, 1870, the Ceremony of consecration was conducted by the righteous Stefan Omsk. In February 1896 he was consecrated the second altar, in the name of the Mother of God "soothe my sorrows". In 1891 the Church was a parochial school for girls.
In 1920, all Church property was nationalized. In 1936, local authorities had decided to demolish the Church, but miraculously managed to save. In November 1943, the Church was returned to the Orthodox community. In 1951, in the Cathedral was built the third chapel - in honor of the Prophet Elijah.
In 1946, the Cathedral received the status of Cathedral. In 1989 the building of the Cathedral was built two chapels. The author of this project was the architect V. A. Baranov. As a result of this extension was broken the harmony of the original appearance of the Cathedral. At the same time have updated the interiors of the temple, lacquered wall painting.
In 1998, adjacent to the Cathedral site was built administrative building, which closed its North facade.
