Omsk drama theatre – the oldest theatre of the city and one of the best provincial Russian theatres. The theatre was founded in 1874 with funds collected by the city society by subscription.
The theater building is a historical and architectural monument. It was built in 1905 by the Author of this project by the famous architect I. Gorinov. In the early twentieth century on the stage of the Omsk theatre staged plays of Alexander Ostrovsky, L. Tolstoy, A. Chekhov. From the work of M. Gorky were delivered to the "barbarians", "children of the sun", "bottom", "Gardeners" and "Commoners".
In the new theatre in addition to dramatic performances were staged Opera also half the cast was made up of soloists and a chorus, a Special place in the repertoire of the drama was reserved for the performances on Soviet drama, for example: A. 1985 in the life of the Omsk theatre was marked by the performance of Trostianets "war Has no female face" scenario S. Aleksievich. For this work the State prize of the RSFSR. Stanislavsky was awarded the Director and actress: Psarev E., Vasiliadi N., Nadezhdina N. and Barkovsky K.
In 1983, the theatre received the status of "academic". Omsk drama was twice awarded the State prize of the Russian Federation. K. Stanislavsky. For the first time in 1973 for the play N.
