In Skiathos island is the house-Museum of the famous Greek writer, one of the best representatives of modern Greek literature of Alexandros Papadiamantis (1851-1911).
Unfortunately, the house in which was born the great novelist, has not survived to our days, as it was sold and the new owners demolished it. Alexandros Papadiamantis grew up and died in the new house of his father (which reads the plaque on the wall of the building, which was built in 1860. After the death of the famous writer, the Ministry of culture of Greece has declared this house is an important cultural monument. In 1954 the building was purchased by the government and since then belongs to the municipality of Skiathos. Here and today is the home of Alexandros Papadiamantis Museum, dedicated to the life and work of an outstanding writer.
A small two-story Museum building is located about 100 metres from East coast cities on a small street. The house is a typical example of local architecture and well reflects the traditional style and character of building of the island. The left side is the living room with a fireplace, Papadiamantis spent the last moments of my life in the winter of 1911. On the right is a small room, where the writer's father, being a priest, kept their books and vestments. Later it belonged to the Alexandros and was used as a bedroom and office. Atmosphere (original furnishings and other household items) in these spaces saved during the life of the writer. On the ground floor there is an exhibition hall, where a submitted manuscript, documents, photos, and more.
