The memorial complex "Fighters" in Pietrusinski beam is in the vicinity of Taganrog in the village of Petrosino. Seventh decade the locals call this place "Beam of Death". Here, in an old clay pit, the Nazis killed more than 10 thousand of innocent people of different nationalities, religions, political affiliation, age. Among them were 164 men. Beam of death is a complex of tombs and memorial structures built on the initiative of the Chairman of the Jewish community, who himself was a prisoner of the Nazi torture chamber.

During the great Patriotic war of Taganrog was very heavy fighting, especially in 1943, when the Nazis did not want to cede to the Soviet forces created within two years of occupation defenses. But mass shootings in Pietrusinski beam began soon after the occupation of Taganrog in October 1941. According to eyewitnesses of the events over the city are constantly circling the plane, drowning out the sound of gunfire. The bodies in the gully barely covered with earth, and at the entrance to the beam hung a sign "Forbidden zone, violation of – execution. Sonderkommando SS 10. A few days after the liberation of Taganrog on 1 September 1943 the tomb was opened, the eyes of the townspeople stood the terrible picture of thousands of mutilated corpses.

In August 1945 in the gully of Death established a modest obelisk in memory of the victims. In 1965 the group Rostov architects (N. I. Booth, V. P., Dubovik, J. S. Zanis, A. G. Katukov) undertook the development of a memorial and two years later presented the project in the city house of culture for discussion. The project received a high rating, but unfortunately, was not implemented.

Later was created a new project architects Graceville, which was partially implemented in 1973 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the liberation of Taganrog. He represented a 18-meter-high stele and was originally called "Victims", but later, after many disputes, the choice was stopped on the name "Wrestlers".
