The Tran Quoc pagoda is built in the VI century during the reign of the Emperor If We De. It was originally built outside of the dam Yen Fu, and later transferred to the West Lake. In 1815 there were carried out restoration work.
The temple is decorated with seventeenth century stele, an inscription which tells the story of the pagoda. In the main courtyard in a huge pot growing the Bodhi tree, grown, according to legend, from the cutting of the tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment.
Near the temple is a magnificent brick stupa.
