Rovaniemi art Museum was opened in 1876. It is located in the former post office building, renovated by architect Juhani Pallasmaa and remodelled into a Museum. Much of the exposition presents the works of contemporary Finnish art from the collection from Jenny and Antti Wihuri, which includes more than 2000 works.

Special exhibitions focused on the work of artists of the Northern peoples of Lapland. The Museum hosts events based on the interaction of science and culture, as well as local multicultural community and at the University of Lapland.

The Museum takes visitors with disabilities. For them, conducts special tours.

On the Museum grounds there is Parking for cars, and a shop.
