Old clock tower located in the center of Sliven is one of the main attractions of the city. It was built in the XIX century and originally served as a fire observation tower. Upstairs sat on duty, who watched the fires in the city. The fact is that, as in many other cities of Bulgaria, in those days in Sliven had many wooden structures, so sudden and on time unquenched fire could lead to dire consequences.
However, as a result of the development of fire fighting technologies need to use the tower as an observation tower was gone. By order of the authorities at the top, the wooden part of the building with four sides have set hours that work today.
The architecture of the building is quite simple, devoid of decorative elements. The main part of the structure is a massive tower in the shape of rectangular prisms with thick walls. In its construction were used stones, bricks, bonded with plaster of Paris and laid in alternating rows.
Over the tower stands a small octagonal wooden structure with Windows, resembling a gazebo. It covers velmiskina roof. Tall clock tower reaches more than 20 meters, so it is visible from many points in the city.
