The house-Museum of Hadji Dimitar Photo: the House-Museum of Hadji Dimitar

The house-Museum of Hadji Dimitar in Sliven is one of the most famous local tourist sites.

Building located in one of the oldest districts of Sliven, was built in the late XVIII century by the grandfather of Hadji Dimitar. The structure is a typical example of architecture of that time – a small house, the second floor is a large attic space used for housing. 10 may 1840 born here of Dimitar Asenov – famous Bulgarian voivode, a fighter for the liberation of Bulgaria from the Ottoman yoke, went down in history under the name of Hadji Dimitar.

Previously next door to a residential building used to be a hotel, which, together with the porch and the fence was destroyed in 1930.

The house was converted into a Museum in 1935. By the time the opening was to the extent possible, restored the interior decoration of a room belonging to Hadji Dimitar. Twenty years later, the Museum opened its first exhibition devoted to the life and work of the people's freedom fighter. In the period from 1969 to 1975 in the complex restoration work was carried out. Currently the restored appearance of the premises prior to the period of Liberation.

On the second floor of the building visitors can find a large exhibition devoted Hadji Dimitar and another outstanding historical figure – the leader of the group of fighters against the Ottoman rule, Stefan Karaj. Both governors were killed on the battlefield in 1868. Among the items presented here: weapons, maps, household items, personal belongings, photos, and faithfully recreated the copies of the banner and form members of the rebel group.

Part of the Museum is an Inn with adjoining outbuildings and a wine cellar.
