Vransko lake is the largest lake in Croatia, geographically, it is located closest to the Adriatic coast. From Biograd na Moru it is separated by just four kilometers to the East, and from Vodice to ten kilometers to the Northwest. As a result, the Western part of the lake belongs to the Zadar County, and East to the šibenik-Knin.

The total area of Vransko Jezero is almost 31 square miles, and its length is almost 14 kilometers with a width of slightly more than two kilometers. The greatest depth of the lake is 4 meters. By origin Vransko lake is flooded karstic cavity.

The feature of the lake is its extremely close proximity to the Adriatic sea: the isthmus separates them whose width in kilometers from half to half. It just passes the Adriatic highway. Near the Northern tip of Vransko Jezero on this isthmus is a village Pakoštane. The reservoir is elongated in the direction of the South-East by the North-West in the parallel of the seashore – its top form can be identified as an oval. The lake feeds the streams, and flow into the sea through the channel near the southeastern tip of the reservoir, the width of which is not more than six hundred meters.

Vransko lake is filled with fish, their nests arrives to build a large number of wild birds, among which the most important colony of herons, which are carefully guarded by the watchers.

Around the entire pond is organized by the natural Park, to be able to protect this natural landmark. Now it comes in 11 natural parks of Croatia.
