The Quezon Memorial Photo: The Quezon Memorial

The Quezon memorial is a national Park and mausoleum located in Quezon city, the former capital of the Philippines. The Park has an oval shape and is limited Oval Road. The main attraction of the Park is a mausoleum that holds the remains of the second of President Manuel Quezon and his wife Aurora Quezon.

Actually this place was reserved for the construction of the national Capitol, which had to meet the Congress of the Philippines. In November 1940 took place the laying of the first stone, but construction was interrupted by the outbreak of the Second World war. After the war, President Sergio osmena issued a decree on the early collection of folk remedies for the construction of the memorial to his predecessor, Manuel Quezon. Then a competition was held to design the memorial, which was won by the Filipino architect Federico Ilustre. Besides the monument was planned to build a complex of three buildings – the library, Museum and theatre.

According to the project of the monument was to consist of three vertical pylons symbolizing the major geographical regions of the country – Luzon, Mindanao and the Visayas, and surrounded by sorrowful angels holding Asian Jasmine (national flower). The height of each pylon – 66 meters (the age at which he died Manuel Quezon). Inside the pylons were designed to host a two-storey building – the gallery, from which visitors could see the hearse, Quezon, patterned hearse of Napoleon Bonaparte.

The construction of the memorial began in 1952, but was moving very slowly, partly because the cost of imported Carrara marble, which was brought blocks is already in place and cut. There were problems with the management of funds collected for the construction, as well as the theft of marble. Only in 1978, the monument was completed – to the 100 anniversary from the birthday of Manuel Quezon. His remains were moved here in 1979. And in 2005 they had placed the remains of his wife, Aurora Quezon.

Unfortunately, the planned building of the library, Museum and theatre were never built. However, on the territory of the memorial were created two small Museum in one stored personal belongings of Manuel Quezon, and the second devoted to the history of Quezon city.
